1. What do I need to do before I can start driving?

  • You must have a Provisional Licence.

  • You must complete driving licence application form D1 and photocard application form D750 (Available from most post offices)
  • The minimum age which you can legally drive a car on the public roads is 17.
  • If you are disabled and in receipt of mobility allowance, the minimum age is 16.
  • It is also worthwhile having an eyesight test to check that you meet the minimum eyesight standard for driving.

  • 2. How many driving lessons will I need to take?

Driving is a skill that some people learn quicker than others. Your instructor will monitor your progress and will let you know how ready your are for the tests.

    3. How often should I have my lessons?

How often you have your lessons is entirely up to you. We recommend at least 1, 1 hour session per week (subject to availability).

    4. Do I need to pass the Theory Test before I can start my driving lessons?

No. In fact it is a good idea to learn the theory whilst you are learning the practical as it can bring the subject alive making it easier to understand and remember.

    5. Where do I take my Theory Test?

There are Theory Test centres located all over the UK run by the DSA. Your Instructor can advise you which is your nearest one.

    6. Do we do intensive courses?

Yes. Learning to drive is different for everyone so rather than sell you a set package we'll tailor one to suit you.

    7. Now that there is a Theory Test, will I still be asked questions at the end of my Practical Test?

No. The Practical Test and Theoretical Test are now completely separate.

    8. Can a friend or relative teach me how to drive?

The Driving Standards Agency strongly recommends that you take lessons from an Approved Driving Instructor. If your friend or relative teaches you they must be over 21 years of age and have held a Full British Driving Licence for at least 3 years. It's worthwhile remembering too that learning with a friend or relative means you could pick up their bad habits.

    9. Will my instructor expect me to know the basics of learning to drive?

No. However, it would be more beneficial to yourself if you do gain some knowledge on the theory. There are several books available and a lot of information can be found in The Highway Code.

    10. Can I choose to have a woman instructor?

Yes. If you felt you would be more comfortable having a female instructor then this can be arranged for you. (subject to availability).

    11. Do we provide Refresher Courses for Qualified Drivers?

Yes, we do several courses disigned to refresh your driving skills. For more informationon all our courses click here.

    12. Do we provide Advanced Driving Courses?

Yes. You can really prove yourself by passing the diamond advanced test. For more information click here.

    13. Do we teach motorway driving?

Yes. This is a must and may possibly become the law soon. For more information click here.

    14. When I pass my test, do you provide any further courses?

Yes. Once you have passed your driving test there are several options available to you. These extra lessons are known as 'Pass Plus'.
